FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Planning a wedding in Boston or New England? Below are answers to the most frequently asked questions about booking, timelines, coverage, editing, and rain plans.
1. How far in advance should we book our wedding photographer?
I recommend booking your wedding photographer 9–18 months in advance, especially if you’re planning a wedding during peak seasons (spring, summer, or fall). Popular dates fill quickly — particularly Saturdays in late spring and early fall. If you have your venue secured and your date confirmed, it’s a good idea to reach out as soon as possible. My calendar tends to fill fast, and I only take on a limited number of weddings each year to give every couple my full attention.
2. What’s required to book you as our photographer?
To officially reserve your wedding date, a signed contract and a 50% retainer are required. The retainer secures your date on my calendar and ensures that I am fully committed to your wedding day. The remaining balance is due prior to the wedding, as outlined in your agreement. All booking terms and contingency details are clearly explained in the contract, so you can move forward with confidence & clarity.
3. Do you offer customizable wedding photography packages?
Yes. My wedding collections are primarily based on the number of hours of coverage you need. Every wedding is unique, so I work closely with you to understand your timeline, your priorities, and any special photography needs your day may include. Whether you’re planning a smaller, intimate celebration or a full-day event, we’ll tailor the coverage to fit your vision. My goal is to make sure your photography coverage feels thoughtful, seamless, and perfectly suited to your wedding day.
4. Is an 8-hour package truly 8 hours of photography?
Yes. An 8-hour package includes eight hours of professional wedding day coverage. The start time is chosen together based on your timeline, and coverage begins at that agreed-upon time.I typically arrive 30–45 minutes early to ensure everything is prepared so I can begin photographing right on schedule. During the reception, a brief meal break is typically taken (as outlined in the contract), but I coordinate this around the event schedule so no important moments are missed.Your coverage time is dedicated to documenting your wedding day thoroughly and professionally from start to finish.
5. Can you accommodate multiple locations on the wedding day?
Yes — absolutely. Many weddings include multiple locations, and I handle that all the time. Some wedding days include three locations (for example: getting ready, ceremony, and reception), and I’ve photographed weddings with as many as five different locations in a single day. To ensure everything runs smoothly, I ask that you provide accurate venue names and addresses in advance. This allows me to plan travel time properly and keep your timeline on track. Even when your entire wedding takes place at one venue, we’ll often use multiple spots around the property for portraits — taking advantage of different backdrops and lighting to create variety in your images.
6. Why work with an independent wedding photographer instead of a large wedding photography company?
When you hire a large company, you often work with a brand — not necessarily the photographer who will show up on your wedding day.
When you hire me, you work directly with me from start to finish. I’m your photographer, your point of contact, and the person personally invested in your wedding day.
I offer:
-
Direct communication with me at all times
-
A quick turnaround of your images (usually one week, never more than two)
-
Careful processing of every single image
-
Custom Photoshop work when needed
-
A specialty in producing timeless Black & White images
Most importantly, I provide a truly personalized experience. I take the time to understand your vision, your style, and your unique story — so your photos feel like you, not a template.
When you choose me, you’re not just hiring a professional — you’re gaining a dedicated partner who genuinely cares about capturing every meaningful moment of your day.
7. How can I help ensure great photos on our wedding day?
That’s a great question. A well-planned timeline, clear communication with me, and choosing beautiful locations to shoot in all make a tremendous difference. Shooting in a well-lit space is especially helpful, as natural light plays a big role in creating stunning images.
Location and lighting are two of the biggest secrets to incredible wedding photos — and I specialize in finding and creating beautiful light throughout your day.
8. Can we provide a shot list for specific photos we’d like?
Yes, I absolutely welcome a list of must-have photos — especially for family groupings and meaningful moments that are unique to your day. While I naturally capture the key events and candid moments as they unfold, a shot list helps ensure that no important family combinations or special details are overlooked. Before your wedding, we’ll review your list together so everything runs smoothly and efficiently on the day itself.
9. Do you work with a second photographer or assistant?
My wedding packages are photographed by me personally. However, a second photographer can be added if your wedding day would benefit from additional coverage — such as getting ready in separate locations, having a large guest count, or wanting multiple angles during your ceremony and reception. When needed, I work with experienced professional photographers whom I trust. All images — both theirs and mine — are carefully reviewed and professionally edited by me to ensure a consistent look and quality throughout your gallery. If you’re considering a second photographer, I’m happy to discuss whether it would be beneficial for your specific wedding day.
10. Do you offer engagement sessions, and are they included in your packages?
Yes — engagement sessions are included complimentary with every wedding photography package (a $500 value).Engagement sessions are a wonderful way for us to get to know each other before your wedding day. You’ll become comfortable in front of the camera, and I’ll learn how you naturally interact as a couple. This makes your wedding day portraits feel relaxed, authentic, and effortless.Sessions can take place at one of the many beautiful locations throughout New England. If you’re looking for ideas, you can explore some of my favorite engagement session locations here.
11. Do you offer video services as well?
While I specialize exclusively in wedding photography, I regularly collaborate with Aaron Roberts of Aaron Justin Films, a talented Boston-area wedding filmmaker known for cinematic storytelling and a calm, professional presence on a wedding day. We work seamlessly together to ensure that photography and videography complement each other without ever feeling intrusive. Our goal is to create a cohesive experience while capturing your day beautifully from both perspectives. If you’re interested in videography, I’m happy to connect you directly so you can explore his work and see if it’s the right fit for your wedding.
12. How many images will we receive, and how long will it take to get them?
On average, couples receive approximately 100 professionally edited images per hour of coverage. For example, an 8-hour wedding typically results in 800 or more fully edited images — carefully selected and individually processed to ensure quality and consistency. Your full gallery is delivered online within one to two weeks, with most weddings completed in about one week. I take pride in providing a fast turnaround without compromising attention to detail.
13. Will you edit all of our photos?
Yes. Every image you receive is professionally edited to ensure consistent quality and a cohesive look throughout your entire gallery. This includes careful color correction, exposure adjustments, and thoughtful retouching when needed. I personally process each image to reflect my style and maintain the highest standards of quality. You will never receive unfinished or unedited photos — only polished, wedding-ready images.
14. Can we share our wedding photos on social media?

16. Do you offer wedding albums?
Yes, wedding albums are available as an optional add-on. Because albums are highly customizable — with a variety of sizes, cover materials, layouts, and design options — they are not included in standard photography packages. You have the option to design your album yourself using an easy online design tool, or I can assist you (or have a professional designer assist) in creating a beautifully curated coffee table album that tells the story of your wedding day.If you’re interested in an heirloom-quality album, I’m happy to walk you through the options.
17. Do you have backup equipment?
Absolutely. I always carry backup cameras, lenses, memory cards, and lighting equipment to ensure your wedding day is fully protected from unexpected technical issues. I photograph your wedding using two cameras, so I always have a second camera ready at my fingertips. Redundancy is an essential part of professional wedding photography, and I take every precaution to safeguard your memories.
18. Do you have liability insurance?
Yes. I carry a $2 million liability and property damage insurance policy through the Professional Photographers of America (PPA). Many venues require photographers to provide proof of insurance, and I’m happy to supply documentation if needed. This coverage protects both you and your venue, ensuring your wedding day runs smoothly and professionally.
19. How do you ensure our photos are safely stored?
I use a multi-layer backup system to protect your images from the moment they are captured. During your wedding, I photograph using cameras with dual memory card slots. This means every image is recorded simultaneously to two separate memory cards, creating an instant backup. After the wedding, your images are transferred to my studio computer and immediately backed up to an external hard drive — while the original files remain safely stored on the memory cards. This layered approach ensures your wedding photos are protected at every stage of the process.
20. How do you handle unexpected weather or lighting challenges?
I’m experienced in adapting to all types of conditions — whether it’s rain, low-light venues, overcast skies, or harsh midday sun. New England weather can be unpredictable, but beautiful images are absolutely possible in any condition. I come fully prepared with professional lighting equipment, multiple lenses, and the technical expertise needed to create stunning photographs regardless of the circumstances. In fact, some of the most dramatic and romantic wedding images happen in less-than-perfect weather.
21. What happens if you’re unable to photograph our wedding?
In the unlikely event that I am unable to photograph your wedding due to illness, emergency, or circumstances beyond my control, I have a contingency plan in place. I maintain relationships with a network of experienced, professional lead wedding photographers whom I trust and have worked with in the past. If needed, I would secure a qualified replacement to ensure your wedding day is fully covered. This contingency plan is clearly outlined in your contract, so you can feel confident knowing your wedding photography is protected.
We still get beautiful photos.Rain can actually create some of the most romantic and memorable wedding images. With the right preparation, clear umbrellas, and thoughtful lighting, rainy moments often feel intimate, cinematic, and full of personality. I come prepared for unpredictable New England weather and know how to adapt quickly to changing conditions. Whether we’re working under a covered area, using creative lighting, or embracing the rain for dramatic portraits, your wedding photos will still look incredible. Sometimes, a little rain makes the day even more magical.
